When choosing an air-conditioning system, the first questions are the size of the building and the number of rooms.
Split and multi-split
The simplest option for one or a few rooms. A single split connects one indoor unit to one outdoor unit. A multi-split connects up to 8 indoor units to one outdoor unit. Suitable for homes, small offices and shops.
VRF
One central system for multi-room buildings. Each room has its own temperature control, and up to 64 indoor units can be managed from one point. With heat-recovery VRF, one room can be cooled while another is heated. Suitable for offices, hotels, schools and residential buildings.
Chiller and fan coils
A chiller cools water, which is pumped through pipes to fan coil units in each room. Suitable for shopping centres, hospitals and industrial sites with large cooling loads.
Space for outdoor units, the need for simultaneous heating and cooling, and running costs also matter. The right decision starts with proper design.
